$3.2 million promised for southwest highway upgrade

A SECTION of the Carnarvon Highway is set to receive upgrades to the tune of $3.26 million.

2.7km of the rural highway between Injune and Rolleston will be widened, and five culverts extended in a bid to make the road safer for the heavy vehicles which frequent it.

“These works are part of our priority to improve safety and heavy vehicle productivity across the nation,” Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development Michael McCormack said.

“Local residents, farmers, miners and producers who use the Carnarvon Highway will all benefit from these upgrades.

“It’s all part of the Federal Government’s record $100 billion investment in infrastructure projects getting Australians to where they need to be sooner and safer.”

Federal Member for Maranoa David Littleproud said once completed, these works will ensure that the road is safer between Injune and Rolleston.

“Safer roads save lives.

“They also create jobs, and we have a plan to make country roads safer right across the nation,” Mr Littleproud said.

The Injune-Rolleston upgrade has been jointly funded by the federal government under the Heavy Vehicle Safety and Productivity Program, and also the state government; each is contributing $1.63 million.
