Aussie Helpers lend a paw to bilbies after recent break-in

AUSSIE Helpers Jo Stever and Samantha Price have restored faith in humanity at Charleville's Bilby Experience following last week's gutless break and enter at the sanctuary.

Ms Stever and Ms Price look after the day-to- day operations for Aussie Helpers and sprang into action when they heard of the $1000 theft.

"We help out locals, mostly farmers of course, but have branched out to the bilbies this time,” Ms Stever said.

"Sam was looking through Facebook and noticed they had been broken into and their donation box had been stolen.

"So she contacted Kat to find out if she could do anything, and then decided we would donate what was stolen.

"I'm very proud to have been able to do that, to be able to present the Bilby Experience with the cheque and represent Aussie Helpers too.”

The money from Aussie Helpers will go a long way to feeding the 30 bilbies in Charleville and centre manager Kat Castles was over the moon.

"Our 30 bilbies need a lot of food, and we will also receive over a dozen more very soon. We pay for their transport and look after them when they are here,” Ms Castles said.

"To put things into perspective, $1000 will give our bilbies about a month's worth of insects and mealworms. "Essentially it is a month's worth of dinners, not including the seeds, biscuits and oils they also get.

"Thank you so much to Aussie Helpers and everyone else.”
