SOUTHERN Queensland Police say they are extremely happy with the results of raids in St George this morning.

Executing 20 search warrants, 16 local alleged offenders were charged with 37 offences, and South West Detective Inspector Paul Hart said Operation Papa Cast produced "decent results" with cannabis and ice utensils amongst the items seized.

According to Detective Inspector Hart, the charges relate primarily to drugs, including trafficking of a dangerous drug, possession of a dangerous drug and supply of a dangerous drug.

However, some were bail-out offences, along with five weapons charges. One breaking and entering charge was also recorded.

Off the back of "excellent, wide ranging intel" and coinciding with Family and Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Det Insp Hart said it showed domestic violence was a huge issue that needed to be addressed.

"Southern Queensland Police were allocated funding for crime reduction and crime prevention and the South West district received a large sum of that, particularly to address crime surrounding domestic violence, which is why this operation was conducted, and similar ones will happen in the coming months," he said.

The operation included local police along with the state dog squad, Darling Downs tactical squad and other district resources.

"We believe our results will result in a positive effect on the St George community on the back of the proactive approach police have been taking in the domestic violence prevention space," Det Insp Hart said.

"The intel we received shows the St George community takes pride in their town and wants to see it become drug and domestic violence free."

The alleged offenders will face court in May and June.
