Fourth Laidley fire clearly lit on purpose: Police

FOR the fourth night in a row, emergency services have responded to a vegetation fire at Paroz Rd, Laidley.

The fire was reported to Queensland Fire and Emergency Services at about 6.30pm.

Paramedics and Police attended the scene and the fire is now being treated as suspicious and police are calling for anyone with information to come forward.

Laidley Police Officer In Charge Senior Sergeant Jim McDonald said Police were investigating the blaze, which was clear was lit by persons well known in the area.

A total of 12 volunteer and auxiliary fire fighting units attended the fire with crews mopping up at about 9.30pm.

Laidley resident Ray Watterson captured photos of the blaze said it was the smell of the fire which alerted him.

"It was the smell that told me something was wrong and it gave off a lot of heat," he said.

Mr Watterson was just one kilometre away from the fire.

"It is the closes I have every seen a fire to town," he said.

"It stretched around halfway around Bushe Hill for at least 1.5 km from near the bottom of the hill near the road next the train line to top of hill in some places."

Mr Watterson said he didn't feel he had to evacuate, but spoke with many people in the new estate this morning.

"There was a lot of interest with what was happening," he said.
