King of the north will head west for surprise visit

RUMOURS are swirling throughout the Balonne Shire after rugby league legend, future immortal and premiership winning great Johnathan Thurston announced he would be arriving out west soon.

The former North Queensland Cowboys, Queensland Maroons, Indigenous All Stars and Australian Kangaroos star shared the announcement to Balonne Shire Council's Facebook page. "I'll be visiting Balonne Shire Council in August,” Thurston said in the video.

"I can't wait to spend a few days in your region, so I'll see you soon. Cheers.”

Thurston made his NRL debut for the Canterbury Bulldogs in 2002 and went on to captain the Cowboys for an impressive 12years before retiring in 2018.

In 2015 he became the first four-time Dally M Medallist for the NRL season's best player. Later that year he became the first three-time winner of the Golden Boot for the world's best player.

Balonne Shire Council kept quiet on why the sporting legend was heading to the southwest. Keep checking balonnebeacon.com.au for the announcement.
