Michael Bennett shaves his head for noble cause

MICHAEL Bennett braved the chilly night air on Saturday to shave his hair and beard for a worthwhile cause.

In front of family and friends at the Cobb and Co Hotel in St George, Michael joined several other in helping raise vital funds for the Leukaemia Foundation.

It's a cause close to his heart.

"My dad passed away from leukaemia as well as a couple of friends of ours that we've known for quite some time,” Mr Bennett said.

Michael's aim of raising $2000 was easily surpassed, with $3680 going towards the Leukaemia Foundation.

"My aim was to reach $2000 and to make a little bit extra than that was quite a bonus and I was very happy with it.”

Joining Michael in shaving their hair was a cohort of friends and family, including Brent Kann -who had leukaemia several years ago and is currently in remission.

"It was very good night with a really good turnout,” he said.

"A couple of the other people that were there decided to donate money and get on board and have a shave or colour their hair.

"I was impressed with how everything went and the support from all the whole community and I look forward to doing it again in the future.

"The foundation helps to support families here in the Balonne and remote areas where sufferers might have to travel to see doctors and specialists just so they can get by.”
