A THREE day event celebrating the community spirit of St George, and showcasing the Balonne River, the multi-cultural River Dragon Festival swept through town over the weekend.

A celebration of river activities, dragon boat racing, food, and the town itself, portfolio chair for tourism, Robyn Fuhrmeister said despite the dust, the weekend had been a huge success.

"I think it was great for St George, it gave people a chance to get out and have fun, it's about giving back to the local community who are doing it tough,” she said.

"At the end of the day, everything was great, and every year it will continue to grow.

"We have the best natural asset you could hope to have in a town, and we want to keep showcasing that.”

Highlights of the weekend included the Child Protection Colour Run, a multi-cultural grazing table, and the River Dragon boat races.
