WATCH: Shocking footage of a cab rank brawl

WARNING: This video contains bad language and violence.

A VIOLENT brawl at the Mooloolaba taxi rank has been described as a "common occurrence" by the boss of SunCoast Cabs.

Video captures two men sparring on the grass near the taxi rank about midnight on Saturday.

The fight is broken up but violence reignites in the rank itself with a large man grabbing another man by the neck.

A shirtless man, who was involved in the initial fight, leaps into the fray and knocks another man to the ground.

Bystanders try to get out of the way and a taxi marshal pleads with the men to break up the fight and move on.

SunCoast Cabs GM Eli ten Dam said police need to increase their presence in the area to stop the violence.

"Sadly that's a reasonably common occurrence," Mr ten Dam said.

"Obviously we have a guy at the rank and he has a security guard there to look after him but there's not a lot they can do when there are a whole lot of people like that.

"Police probably do need to increase their foot presence in the area but I think more responsibility needs to be put on the people who are serving these people too much alcohol."

Police were asked if they believed on the ground resources in the Mooloolaba area were sufficient and whether or not anyone had been charged in relation to the fight - we await their response.

"The Taxi rank at Mooloolaba is a secure Taxi Rank with Security a Taxi Marshall and CCTV.  The Ocean Street Taxi Rank is also a designated Safe Taxi rank with the same structure," Senior Sergeant Gavin Marsh from Maroochydore Police said.

"Police are rostered and perform both beat and vehicle patrols of the licensed premises at both Mooloolaba and Maroochydore.

"Police patrols are not specifically tasked for times as calls for service along with arrests and other emerging issues requiring attention police resources may impact on patrol activity as policing is dynamic.

The Maroochydore Police work closely with nearby police divisions including Sippy Downs and Nambour along with support from the Sunshine Coast Tactical Crime Squad, Road Policing Command, Plain Clothes sections, Dog Squad and other agencies such as OLGR focused on safety in the Sunshine Coast Safe Night Precinct (which incorporates Maroochydore Mooloolaba and Caloundra).

"There is a significant policing presence in both Maroochydore and Mooloolaba which has seen a decrease in the number of reported assaults in the last 12 months compared to the previous 12 months."
