South west boys have a crack at cricket state championships
Cricket: The southwest side has been batting above their average this week, with a cracking performance against teams from all over the state.
A team made up of 12 players from St George, Roma, Charleville, Surat, Miles and Tambo headed to Ipswich to compete in the state cricket championships.
Manager of the southwest team Alanna Ives said the boys have excelled in the competition, with many playing for their first time.
“For the others who have been playing a while, they’re getting more experience playing against some good sides,” Alanna said.
“They’ve been put in under pressure situations and have really kept up a positive spirit and attitude,
“They show up every day with a smile on their faces ready to give it a go.”
For a team that only had their first training session one day before the competition, the southwest boys proved distance doesn’t have an effect on determination.
‘They just grew and grew over the competition and really rose to the occasion.”
