NEARLY seven months after the RSL in St George closed its doors, the committee formed after the public meeting in March has come out and said it is not feasible to re-open the facility.
After public outcry when the RSL closed its doors with no warming last September, John Barrett, Neale O'Brien, Robert Buchan and John Lyons felt compelled to see if there was enough support to re-open the doors.
Neale O'Brien, chairperson of the investigation committee, said unfortunately a community-led RSL is not an option.
"It is with great regret we announce that after fully investigating all options available to us, our committee has decided that it is no longer feasible to pursue the reopening of 108 Alfred Street for use as a community club,” Mr O'Brien said.
"I'd like to thank our committee for their diligent efforts, the Balonne Shire Council, Merino Motor Inn and St George RSL Sub Branch for their assistance.”
After a passed in auction in January, the site was sold with settlement occurring this month, so time will tell what will come of the site formally known as the RSL.
