Man jailed for nine months over lewd acts on girl

AN URBENVILLE man who pleaded guilty to committing an act of indecency on a girl under 16 has been jailed for nine months.

Kenneth Stubbings appeared in Lismore Local Court yesterday to be sentenced after pleading guilty in March to charges of committing an act of indecency on a person under 16, committing an act of indecency upon a person over 16 and two counts of destroying or damaging property valued less than $2000.

Stubbings, 68, was arrested on March 11, after the victim of his lewd acts complained to police.

Yesterday at Lismore Local Court Magistrate David Heilpern dismissed both charges of destroying or damaging property.

Stubbings was sentenced to 12 months jail with a non-parole period of nine months on the charge of committing an act of indecency against a person over 16.

On the charge of committing an act of indecency on a person less than 16, Mr Heilpern jailed Stubbings for nine months to be served concurrently.

Stubbings appealed his sentence which was refused in local court and will now be heard in the District Court.
