You know you're in Australia when.....
AVID motorsport photographer Phil Nesham was in the right spot at the right time when he took this photo at Round 2 of the Triple Crown Kart Challenge held at the Whitsunday Moto Sport Club.
Phil said he noticed the python slithering parallel to the track and all of a sudden it took a 90 degree turn straight out onto the road.
"There was bit of a gap from when the kids went around until they came back to the same spot so I guess the snake looked left and then right and thought he was right to cross over," he said.
"At first I wasn't sure whether to be a safety officer or keep taking photos, the kids didn't notice it they were so focused on the racing.
"Eventually the snake crawled amongst the tyres on the other side of the track and no one one including the animals were injured while taking this photo."
The Whitsunday race competitors aren't the first to have to dodge wildlife.
"They moan about the odd kangaroo at Bathurst but check out what our kids up here have to deal with up here," laughed Phil.
"As well as the competition they deal with snakes and swooping magpies."
